TL;DR:
  • What It Is: A natural blush from the drugstore that suits all skin tones
  • What It Does: Gives skin a natural-looking flush that doesn't look cakey or unrealistic
  • Who It's For: Anyone looking for a natural blush from the drugstore option that won't disappoint

I'm probably the only person I know who would sooner forget mascara than blush. It adds dimension to my face, brings a vibrancy that belies how little I probably slept the night prior, and even makes me look a little vacation-y. But I have one big hangup with the product genre: Many of the powder formulas — in drugstores and at department counters alike — contain talc, a derivative of talcum powder, which has been linked to some safety concerns when inhaled.

The 100% Natural Blush from Burt’s Bees is, as the name suggests, not only free of talc but full of really nice botanically-derived ingredients, including hydrating squalane, honey, bamboo stem extract, jojoba seed oil, and vitamin E. Before I took a closer look at the ingredients, I noticed that the formula felt surprisingly soft and appeared even deeper on my medium skin tone than it did in the pan — the exact reverse of nearly every other powder blush I've ever tried.

I typically reach for cream blushes for this very reason — I need serious color payoff for subtler peaches and pinks to show up — but these went on looking saturated. I tried shades and they all looked good. I swept Toasted Cinnamon across my forehead, cheeks, and the perimeter of my face as I would with a bronzer for a beachy glow. Shy Pink lent a blooming, petal-pink tint to the apples of my cheeks. And my favorite, Bare Peach, dusted just beneath my cheekbones, brought shape and warmth and a flattering bright peachy flush to my face.

In case you're wondering more about these little drugstore gems, here's my brief laundry list of everything I love: They don't smell like anything at all, which suits me well (do you really want your blush to compete with your cologne?), come in honeycomb-shaped compacts with clear lids so I don't have to open them all to see which is which, and are super simple to use — I just brush mine on with the Heavenly Luxe French Boutique Blush Brush from It Cosmetics for a perfectly diffused look. This only leaves one question: If you haven't tried it yet, what are you waiting for?
