Listen, I know that sunscreen can seem boring. It's basically the vanilla ice cream of beauty products. It's white, goopy, and certainly doesn't do anything fun like sparkle. (Well, that's not true. Glitter sunscreen exists, after all...) But, as a beauty editor (and just a human in the world), I have to say it: SPF is so! goddamn! important! Without proper sun protection, your skin (and your overall health) is at a greater risk for skin cancer.
That's probably why I can't leave my apartment without slathering my face (and body) with sunscreen. It could be raining, snowing, or even sleeting — the weather plays no factor in my SPF game — and there's a 100-percent chance I'm covered in NYDG Chem-Free Active Defense SPF 30 as I head outdoors.
But, the thing is, I'm not perfect (shocker, I know!), and I often forget to grab my tube to reapply later in the day. Which is why I've come to rely on the Derma E Sun Protection Mineral Face Powder SPF 30. It's a translucent mineral face powder (with a self-depositing brush!) made with titanium dioxide and zinc oxide to both protect against harmful UV rays, as well as sop up mid-day shine and set makeup.
It's not like a traditional translucent powder, though. Sure, it's formulated with silica to help tame excess oil, but it's also jam-packed with nourishing ingredients, like vitamin E and green tea extract, to keep from drying out the skin. For a powder, it's pretty nice.
Although I keep the brush in my bag most of the time, it tends to get most used right after lunch (the time of day I'm feeling shiniest). To apply, I sweep the brush across my T-zone and under my neck (over my makeup), and the chalky powder immediately blends into my fair skin. I've never experienced any sort of chalky aftermath, but I think that's just because I'm so, well, pale. I should note that there's only one shade of the Derma E Sun Protection Mineral Face Powder SPF 30, which means those with darker skin tones may need to self-blend to truly buff out the powder.
Bottom line: For days when I forget my sunscreen (aka most days), I keep my tube of Derma E Sun Protection Mineral Face Powder SPF 30 nearby. It's almost too easy to reapply SPF that way.
