Just when I think I'm taking great care of my hair and I'm keeping my scalp and strands moisturized, here comes dandruff to ruin it and remind me that I need to do better. Y'all, I hate dandruff. Yes, I know most people in general hate it, but it's just so heartbreaking when you've spent so much time deep-conditioning and treating your hair only to part it and see flakes. It's like training for a marathon and pulling your hamstring in the first five minutes. Oh, not to mention, it's also totally embarrassing and super visible against my dark hair.
For me, the problem with some anti-dandruff conditioners is that they're not moisturizing enough for my hair texture. I like to leave the shower after conditioning with my strands feeling like an (expensive) cotton cloud, and if a conditioner can't do that for me then I'm chucking it. But I still have my bottle of Dove DermaCare Scalp Dryness & Itch Relief Conditioner because it is just that good. I used this soft-smelling formula after sudsing up with the accompanying shampoo. I'm a fan of Dove's conditioners, particularly the Quench Absolute conditioner. The product is great and it also comes at a reasonable price, so I had high expectations for this one — and I wasn't disappointed.
When I put it on, it was easy to detangle my hair (in addition to pyrithione zinc, which helps remove and prevent the buildup of flakes, this formula also contains coconut oil and shea butter to hydrate hair and make it soft). I massaged the conditioner onto my scalp, washed it out, and hoped that I wouldn't have to worry about flakes for the entire week. I can report that I only saw one white spot that looked like a flake toward the middle of the week, but the rest of the time I didn't see a single one. This stuff works, y'all. Really well. And at under $10, you can buy multiple backup bottles and your wallet won't take a major hit.
