I’m on my third bottle of Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser. In case your jaw’s not on the floor, let me really lay that one out for you. I started using this cleanser. I used it until it was gone. I procured another bottle. I also bled that one dry. Then I got myself another bottle. I used all of the cleanser inside the bottle. Still not impressed? I am a woman who has access, on any given day, to 46,582 different facial cleansers. Creams, foams, balms — they are all at my disposal, there for the taking, ready to be cleansed with by me (sorry about that, copy department).
Point is: I don’t think I have ever kicked a cleanser and then started using the same one again. But there I was in the beauty closet, equal parts frantic and focused, throwing aside all the other cleansers looking for another Milky Jelly. This is a cleanser that, somehow, makes me look forward to using cleanser. I’ll be lying on the couch after a long, soul-sucking day, questioning my will to live and every decision I've ever made, and then I'll suddenly think: “Ooh, I really want to stand up and go splash water on my exhausted face!” Just because I want to use this Milky Jelly stuff.
In our magazine review of this Best of Beauty winner, a better writer than me (Liana Schaffner) described its appeal thusly: “The only more accurate name for Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser would be Cool, Quivery Cleanser That Dissolves Makeup and Hydrates Like a Night Cream and Also Smells Like Totally Dreamy Rose Water.” And there’s really not much more to say. This cleanser doesn’t leave my skin tight or dry, but it takes off every last bit of my concealer, foundation, and even (nonwaterproof) mascara. It doesn’t foam or lather, but the jelly consistency still feels luxurious — rich and bouncy all at the same time. It rinses clean. It has a really deliciously fresh and just-sweet-enough scent. Any day, I’ll be moving on to bottle number four.
