TL;DR:

A hydrating shampoo that relieves scalp irritation and prevents the flaking and itching caused by dandruff

For as long as I can remember, I've struggled with a chronically dry and itchy scalp. When I was growing up, it would take a host of calming and moisturizing products to keep it under control. Lucky for me and my fellow dandruff sufferers, these days there are a ton of over-the-counter treatments available that won't cost you a fortune or a trip to the dermatologist. (Although if you have persistent scalp issues, it's critical that you do see a doctor.)

If you're in the market for a shampoo to banish dandruff and keep annoying itchiness at bay, let me introduce you to my new favorite formula: Head & Shoulders Smooth & Silky 3 Action Formula Shampoo. Throughout my life, my grandma always swore by Head & Shoulders when taking care of my hair and it's clear why: This stuff actually works — and instantly — thanks to the combination of ingredients pyrithione zinc, which helps kill the dandruff-causing microbe, malassezia globos, and zinc carbonate, which ensures the pyrithione and zinc work together in the formula.

This formula in particular has a comforting floral scent that lingered in my hair for a while. Putting its strength to the test, I decided to give it a go when my scalp was at its itchiest. After taking my hair out of the protective style that I had it in for a month and a half, it needed love, badly (fellow natural girls know the feeling all too well). Before I washed my hair, I did a pretreatment then proceeded to lather up with the shampoo. As someone with naturally dry hair, I found provided a nice cleanse without stripping away too much moisture. It was gentle enough that I managed to get three washes in without my strands feeling like straw afterward. I also was (shockingly) able to lightly finger-comb through my ends, which usually happens only after I've used conditioner.

After I conditioned and styled my hair, my scalp felt completely clean with no flakes whatsoever, leaving me thoroughly impressed — and totally relieved.
