When you have a rare skin condition similar to eczema and psoriasis — and I do, it's called Netherton Syndrome — attempting to find a non-irritating body cream is no easy feat. Actually, sometimes it can feel next to impossible, as so many products claim to be safe for sensitive skin these days, yet still contain synthetic fragrance and other irritants that set finicky skin, like mine, on fire. Over the years, I've experienced more than my fair share of adverse reactions, so when I do discover a body moisturizer that lives up to its promises, I become super loyal to it. Lately, La-Roche Posay's Lipikar Eczema Soothing Relief Cream has been my ride-or-die.
The famous French pharmacy brand created the 2018 Allure Best of Beauty winner specifically for folks with severely dry and easily irritated skin due to eczema. And I'm happy to report that it does exactly what it claims. Enriched with a powerhouse blend of skin soothers like vitamin E, colloidal oatmeal, and shea butter, as well as redness-reducing niacinamide and hydrating glycerin, its gentle formula works wonders at alleviating dry, red, and all-around distressed skin.
Speaking of which, the first time I slathered the cream on, my skin was being wildly sensitive and I more or less expected it to burn or exacerbate the issue. But that's not what happened at all. Instead, the lotion instantly calmed the redness covering my limbs and soothed the cracked, dry patches in my crevices, which most moisturizers fail to do anything for. What's more, the aggressive urge to scratch was alleviated, which is major in my book.
If you have eczema and have been searching for an all-purpose moisturizer that doesn't irritate your fragile skin, I suggest giving this one from La Roche-Posay a shot.
