"Uncooperative" doesn't even cut it when I'm trying to describe my hair. I have natural loose curls, but they're rarely consistent because my hair's so fine. A slight change in my routine or environment can throw it off balance. Most days, I'm resigned to wetting it, brushing it out, and letting it decide what to do on its own. Regardless of how I'm wearing it, though, I'm bound to have some pretty distinctive frizz, especially around my crown. The hot and sticky humidity of the New York City summer only added to that. Shine sprays, oils, and leave-ins all tend to leave my hair shiny but weighed down or even downright greasy-looking — enter dry conditioner.
Just like the dry shampoos, dry conditioners do the same work as their shower-based counterparts in the form of a sprayable mist. A dry conditioner can't replace your traditional conditioning treatments entirely, but they can soften hair and extend the life of a hairstyle between washes. You'll find lots of these in aisles of your favorite high-end beauty retailers, but my favorite lately has been Waterless Instant Moisture Dry Conditioner, an affordable pick straight from the drugstore.
One quick spritz of this mist through my hair leaves it frizz-free and bouncier than before, regardless of whether my hair's in its naturally curly state or heat-styled. It's lightweight enough to use all the way from roots to end, but what really sets it a part from the rest is its fresh floral scent, which lingers in your hair for hours without overwhelming the senses. Waterless really proved it to me: A dry conditioner is a must in any lazy girl's beauty routines.
You'll find the Waterless Instant Moisture Dry Conditioner in our September 2020 Allure Beauty Box.
