5 Ways to Wear Pink Eye Shadow IRL

Life is about to get a little rosier.

Back in January, the Allure Beauty Box delivered a versatile smoky-eye palette with three smoldering shades and a pearlescent highlighter. Just in time for summer, that moody quad is getting a much-needed upgrade with a powdery pink shade that has just the right amount of shimmer. The new hue on the block — Doucce Eyeshadow Mono in Jody — plays nicely with its sultry counterparts, but looks just as stunning on its own with a flick of liquid liner and a heavy coat of mascara. Here's how Allure editors are wearing it...

Sophia Panych, deputy digital beauty director

        Eye Color: Blue-gray

Skin Tone: Fair with neutral undertones

How-To: When I saw this color I immediately thought of an old Miu Miu ad where the models each wore a veil of pastel shadow encircling their eyes. I loved the look because it was sweet in a kind of quirky way, so I decided to try and recreate it on myself. Using a small, fluffy eye shadow brush, I dusted the powder all over my lids and up to the brow bone. Once there was a sheer layer of color, I dipped the brush in water and patted the pigment onto my lids to make the powder look richer and more opaque. I wanted a hazy, cloud-like effect so I took a blending brush and buffed out the edges of the shadow, then taking a tiny domed shadow brush (also dampened) to apply the powder along my lower lashes as if it were a liner. To finish the look, I curled my lashes and coated both top and bottom in tons of mascara to create a slightly clumpy, spidery effect.

        Eye Color: Brown

        Skin Tone: Golden/olive

How-To: Using the Bordeaux shade, I created large, soft wings on each eye. Next, I took an angled brush and dipped into the onyx shade to line the eyes and create definition. I then dabbed the pastel pink shade on the center of each eyelid and in the inner corners to give a 3D “halo” effect.

        Eye Color: Dark Brown

Skin Tone: Deep with a neutral undertone

How-To: I tend to get oily lids by midday, so as a first rule of thumb, I always apply an eye-shadow primer from the base of my lids to underneath my brow bone to prep the look. Too Faced Shadow Insurance Eye-Shadow Primer is an excellent primer that keeps shadow in place and prevents it from creasing throughout the day. At first glance, the Doucce shade looked like a soft, powder pink in the palette, but when swatched on my lids it was silver and barely showed up against my complexion. A quick fix? I lightly sprayed water onto a small, densely-packed eye shadow brush — this not only made the pink hue appear more vibrant, but the pigment popped against my skin tone. Next, I placed the eye shadow over the entire lids. With an angled shadow brush, I dipped into the black eyeshadow and placed it in each crease, running it back and forth in a windshield wiping motion. This created a smoky eye effect. Then, taking a black liquid liner, I drew a subtle cat eye along the upper lash line. A few coats of mascara and voila!

        Amanda Bohnson, beauty assistant

        Eye Color: Blue

Skin Tone: Fair with rosy undertones

How-To: As someone with warm undertones, pink is usually not a color I gravitate toward, but this soft, icy pink shadow may have opened the gates to a whole new colorway. First, I applied a few layers of the light pink color all over my lids to create a noticeable base using a pencil brush. Then, with a tapered blending brush from the middle of my eyelid to the outer corners leaving the inner corner icy pink and untouched, I swept on the purple shade while following the shape of my eye. After that, I used a buff and blend brush to gently apply the charcoal color in the outer corner of my eyes in a sideways “V” motion. I added another tap of the purple shade to my original layer to ensure the charcoal didn’t cover it and finished off by adding another brush of the soft pink shadow to the inner corners of my eyes. Lastly, I applied mascara to the top and bottom lashes, and presto!

        Devon Abelman, associate digital editor

        Eye Color: Brown

Skin Tone: Fair with cool undertones

How-To: To achieve this glossy pastel look, I primed my lids with a bit of concealer first (this created an opaque base that made the shadow look more vibrant). Next, I swept the pastel pink hue all over my lids with a dense shadow brush. I used a patting motion to pack in the shadow and get the best color pay off. Then, I tapped a pin-sized drop of eye gloss over the pink shadow. I skipped mascara for this look because gloss tends to travel onto lashes and smear the mascara. Instead, I tight-lined my upper lash lines with a black waterproof eyeliner. To do so, I pulled my upper lids up with my ring finger to expose the roots of my lashes. Then, I etched my pencil along the waterlines. Finally, I swiped on some black lipstick, but feel free to go a little wild here because pink lids work with basically any lipstick shade.
