Meet the Finalist: Jamé Jackson

Name: Jamé Jackson

Hometown: Washington, D.C. (but currently calls Brooklyn, New York home)

Age: 24

Growing up, Jamé Jackson never felt like the "pretty" girl and says she "lived in fear of being the 'weird, awkward girl who loves beauty.'" Now though, as the creator of the blog, The BlondeMisfit, she realizes that's precisely what makes her stand apart from the rest of the beauty influencers and content creators out there.

To Jackson, beauty is so much more than just makeup and products. "I approach beauty to those I meet with the defiance that you are beautiful and amazing just as you are, that beauty starts from within," she says. She started her YouTube channel a month ago, and so far it has its fair share of inspiring interviews peppered in with the upbeat tutorials you'd expect to find on a beauty channel. And with her fresh approach to vlogging, we can't wait to see how quickly it takes off.

"We can use beauty to discuss gender fluidity, institutionalized racism, discrimination, and lack of diversity — and ultimately, how we can help change what 'beauty' means simply by tearing down everything it is not," she muses. "I use beauty to talk about what I go through as a woman of color, to advocate for more options in the industry, and for more voices to have a seat at the table," she adds. At every opportunity, Jackson makes it abundantly clear that she aims to be the type of beauty blogger who can show you how to do a killer smoky eye and stand up to speak up about what's right and what needs change. In fact, she was even recognized this year at SXSW where she sat on a panel to talk about how The BlondeMisfit works to empower women of color in the beauty industry.

When she's not writing blog posts and serving inspirational real talk, Jackson enjoys traveling, fashion, yoga, and advocating for mental health in marginalized communities. Jackson is straight proof that you do not have to be confined to one space or profession — or even one hobby. "I love to show that real girls can love real things," she says. And that she does.
