Atlanta has the exact Southern charm you'd expect from a city below the Mason-Dixon line, but it's not all seersucker pants and sweet tea. (Though you'll find plenty of both there.) An economic and cultural hub of the South, Atlanta is also a fashion melting pot. "We've got the debutante darlings, hipsters, old-money ladies, and new-money women wearing everything Kim Kardashian wore last week," says Kirsten Palladino—the founder and editorial director of Equally Wed, the world's leading digital LGBTQ wedding magazine—who calls the city home. Here's a closer look at the fun and the fashion that Kirsten has found in ATL—and how you can find yours.
Tap into your creative side. Atlanta’s teeming with writers, artists, entrepreneurs and lofty thinkers, many of whom own their own companies or opt to work from home, as I often do. There’s a bustling homey coffee shop in nearly every hip neighborhood, and this is where they come together to chat, inspire, and create. Go for pulled-together casual (never sloppy) and don't forget some fun accessories and a handbag to tote your laptop—and everything else. I shop for vintage accessories on eBay.
Pick a fashion personality. There's no need to mix and match. If you're so inspired, go ahead and rock Lily Pulitzer from head to to toe, or make like upper crust and only wear luxury brands. Or, if your fashion mood can change on a whim, pack it all.
Try a no-fuss fashion uniform. To make Atlanta fashion your own, consider pencil-thin pants, boots, and a denim button-down wide open at the collar and tied at the bottom. Going out on the town? Pull on the same boots but don a flowy but short dress and pair it with earrings that dangle as long as your hair. I find so many great options on eBay. Find your perfect style here.
