The evening of Sunday, November 15 was the 2020 People's Choice Awards, an opportunity for celebrities to add more trophies to their mantles, only this time, us non-famous folks got to dole out the prizes. Tracee Ellis Ross won a Fashion Icon Award, Jennifer Lopez got a People's Icon Award, and so on, and so forth. A good time was had by all.
While accolades for the rich and famous are exciting, we were particularly interested in the looks host Demi Lovato graced our screens with. She kicked off the evening in a glittery red two-piece set, with her mile-long jet-black hair cascading down to her waist. But this wasn't the only hair look the actor/singer would serve that evening — later in the night, she emerged with long, mermaid-esque platinum blonde waves.
Though Lovato is no stranger to blonde hair, this style is a welcome change from her usual look. To create the waves, hairstylist Paul Norton started by prepping the hair with the Smoothing + Shea Sleek Smooth Style Spray from OGX to shield it from heat before blow-drying. Those gorgeous, loose waves may look effortless but trust that quite a bit of styling was needed to get them to look that way. Norton went section by section, adding texture with the GHD Curve Creative Curl Wand, but you can also use the Kristin Ess Beach Waves 1" Curling Iron if you're looking for similarly stellar results.
To keep those waves locked in place, Norton spritzed on some hair spray before brushing each wave with GHD's Oval Dressing Brush. (The Wet Brush Pro Shine Enhancer is also a great option.) Next, he used a flatiron to smooth out any waves and make the style look extra polished. With a little bit of the OGX Protecting + Silky Blowout Thermal Primer Cream, he made sure to tame any frizz or flyaways. We like Virtue's Polish Un-Frizz Cream for frizz-free styling.
Lovato's gorgeous, cascading waves are super glam, and we can't wait to see what hair color she decides on next, whether it's back to black or she chooses even more vibrant hue.
