With the weather acting like a seesaw lately and pandemic stress at an all-time high, my skin has not been happy. In fact, it's been full-blown angry, with stubborn dry spots taking over my chin area and red splotches, well, just about everywhere. For this reason, I've been stripping back my skin-care routine to just three or four products, and today, I'm telling you about the MVP: EltaMD's UV Restore Tinted Broad-Spectrum SPF 40.
For starters, never have I ever used a 100-percent mineral sunscreen that feels as featherlight and undetectable on the skin as this one. I don't know how the famous sun-care brand does it, but the formula is gorgeous, folks. Gorgeous.
In addition to 15 percent transparent zinc oxide, which is its main source of UVA and UVB protection, it also contains skin-nourishing squalane, texture-smoothing ginger root, and vitamins C and E, which provide powerful antioxidant protection from free radical damage.
Additionally, as demonstrated in the unedited before-and-after photos you see above, it does a solid job at minimizing redness and making everything appear more even. In other words, it makes my complexion look way less obviously blotchy — and manages to do so without looking heavy or cakey on the skin, too.
As far as the tint is concerned, it comes in a sheer light-medium shade that works on my skin tone — but unfortunately, there aren't any options for those with fair or dark complexions, which is a major shame because it checks all of the boxes otherwise. Here's hoping the brand comes out with a more inclusive shade range of tinted SPFs soon.
