Allure Editors Reveal Their All-Time Favorite Fragrances
Fragrances are incredibly personal, but deciding on your signature scent requires more than a few spritzes at a perfume counter. It takes hours, or sometimes days, weeks, or even months, to get a good idea of how a fragrance smells on you. But after years of sniffing and spraying, a few of us have narrowed down the vast selection. These 20 scents—fresh, delicate florals, warm, spicy ouds, gourmands that smell like dessert; and citrusy blends that smell like the beach—have withstood the test of time to become these editors' favorite scent. Or scents, in some cases, because who ever said you had to pick just one?

These 4 Bizarre Fragrance Notes Might Be in Your Perfume
The human sense of smell isn't just highly developed; it's highly discriminating. We're hardwired to keep a safe distance from certain scents, especially aggressive ones. So when a new note arrives on the fragrance scene, it has to both appeal to our particular tastes and get past a deeply ingrained survival mechanism. It may take decades for a scent to gain popularity, or even acceptance. It's hard to believe that some of the notes we consider common were once controversial, but they serve as a great reminder of the transformative, progressive power of perfume.

How to Make the Most Out of Your Winter Fragrance
You know how everything smells more intense, for better or worse, when it's hot and humid outside? Well, the opposite is true in winter. "Scents don't evaporate as easily when the weather is dry, so your perfume won't be as noticeable," says perfumer Rodrigo Flores-Roux. On top of that, "if your skin is dry, fragrance tends not to last as long," adds perfumer Calice Becker. Which helps explain why strong amber and heavy floral scents have traditionally been associated with winter. But that doesn't mean you have to unearth your old bottle of woody muskiness as soon as you turn back the clocks. There are ways to wear your favorite type of fragrance—whether citrusy, spicy, floral, or sweet—and still make an impact.
